Vikings Rule Christian Ponder Out Against Ravens

The Minnesota Vikings have ruled quarterback Christian Ponder out for Sunday’s game at Baltimore. Coach Leslie Frazier said Friday that Ponder had yet to pass all of his post-concussion tests. So Ponder will not suit up against the Ravens, with Matt Cassel starting and Josh Freeman backing him up.

150 Minn. Youth Hockey Players Participating In Concussion Study

This fall, 150 Minnesota youth hockey players are taking part in a study that’s using a new concussion test to measure brainwaves. The studies’ directors believe the test could someday give parents an immediate diagnosis and peace of mind.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier announced Wednesday that Josh Freeman showed up to Winter Park on Tuesday with concussion-like symptoms after the team’s 23-7 loss to the Giants Monday night.

Mauer Still Not Clear Of Concussion Symptoms

Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer has not cleared his concussion symptoms yet. Mauer was missing from the lineup for the 16th straight game Friday, when the Twins started a series against Toronto. The All-Star said after taking batting practice he had “a good day,” but the recovery process has been slow. Mauer said there’s no timetable for his return but that he hopes to be back “sooner than later.” He was hurt on Aug. 19, hit in the facemask by a foul ball.

The Minnesota Twins say All-Star catcher Joe Mauer is not going to be activated from the seven-day concussion list when the team begins a homestand next week. Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said doctors have told Mauer to rest until at least Tuesday, the day he would be eligible to come off the concussion disabled list. Mauer was placed on the list earlier this week after he became dizzy during his pregame routine. The Twins sent him back to Minnesota from Detroit, and the 2009 AL MVP visited a specialist at the Mayo Clinic on Friday.

Mauer was placed on baseball’s seven-day concussion list earlier this week after he became dizzy during his pregame routine. The Twins sent him back to Minnesota from Detroit, and the 2009 AL MVP visited a specialist at the Mayo Clinic on Friday. “They were satisfied with where he’s at,” Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said.

Twins Activate OF Ramirez From Disabled List

The Minnesota Twins have reinstated outfielder Wilkin Ramirez from the disabled list after missing 69 games with concussion problems. Ramirez was first put on the disabled list on May 26. He struggled with lingering symptoms for quite a while before beginning a rehab assignment three weeks ago. Ramirez says he sought the counsel of Twins first baseman Justin Morneau, who has a long history with concussions.
