Ever hear the saying there are two seasons in Minnesota? “Yes,” Marsha Johnston of Minneapolis said. “There’s winter and there’s road construction.” But over the past few decades there have been more road, ramp and bridge closures throughout the winter.
Minnesota has wrapped up its 2014 road construction season. The state Department of Transportation says major bridge construction, highway lane additions and road resurfacing were among the 308 projects underway during the season.
Expect a lot of people to be out on the roads this Labor Day weekend. Gail Weinholzer is director of public affairs at AAA Minnesota/Iowa. “We are expecting nearly 34.7 million Americans to travel at least 50 miles or more,” Weinholzer said. “Nearly 30 million Americans will be traveling by personal automobile.”
When the weather warms up, you know two things are on the horizon: Mosquitos and construction. Both are on target to begin soon.
