Wild’s Yeo Made ‘Leaps And Bounds’ Improvement

When the Minnesota Wild hired Mike Yeo as a first-time NHL head coach, he fit their criteria for a bench boss who could develop several top, young players. Yeo has undergone his own growth in that time, too, and the Wild were satisfied enough with the results on both fronts to make another commitment to him. After his three-year contract extension was finalized last weekend, Yeo appeared with general manager Chuck Fletcher at a news conference Friday to discuss the deal and the team’s future.

Anoka-Hennepin Teachers, District Resume Contract Talks Monday

Teachers and administrators in one of Minnesota’s largest school districts will resume negotiations Monday night in an effort to avoid a possible work stoppage. Officials said the negotiating team for Anoka-Hennepin Education Minnesota, the group representing the teachers, will resume contract talks with district officials at about 5 p.m. Monday.

Perkins, Twins Reach 4-Year Deal For $22,175,000

Closer Glen Perkins and the Minnesota Twins have agreed to a four-year contract that guarantees the pitcher $22,175,000. Perkins had been due $4,975,000 this year and $3.75 million in 2015 under his previous deal, which included a $4.5 million team option for 2016 with a $300,000 buyout.

The Minnesota Vikings have taken another one of their priority free agents off the market before it opens, agreeing to terms on a five-year contract with defensive end Everson Griffen that features $20 million guaranteed and a maximum value of $42.5 million.

A contract has been finalized for the construction of the new Lowertown Ballpark in St. Paul, officials announced Thursday. The contact, between the city of St. Paul and Ryan Companies US, Inc., is the next step towards the ballpark’s opening in 2015. The design was finalized in February 2013.

Mpls. School District Reaches Contract Agreement With Teachers

After three days of negotiation, Minneapolis Public Schools has reached a contract agreement with its teachers late Saturday night. The specifics of the contract have not yet been released, but the district released the following statement: “We believe this contract will improve our overall effectiveness by investing in teachers and students who are at the core of our work.”

Gophers Give Kill Raise And Extra Year On Contract

Minnesota has given football coach Jerry Kill a raise and another year on his contract. The university announced Saturday that Kill’s deal was extended through the 2018 season and that he’ll make $2.1 million in 2014, a big spike from his previous salary of $1.2 million. That was the lowest in the Big Ten. Athletic director Norwood Teague had promised for months the contract would be restructured.

Twins Agree To Contract With Swarzak

The Minnesota Twins and right-hander Anthony Swarzak have agreed to a $935,000, one-year contract, avoiding arbitration. Swarzak went 3-2 with a 2.91 ERA in 48 games for the Twins last season. He made all of those appearances out of the bullpen for the first time in his four-year career. In years past, Swarzak was often used as a spot starter when the rotation faltered or someone went down with an injury.
