Some Minnesota Timberwolves players were in attendance at the first day of the 41st annual Twin Cities Auto Show. Corey Brewer and Ricky Rubio were there Saturday evening taking photos with fans.
The Minnesota Timberwolves would probably have to go 20 and 10, or maybe even 22 and 8 for the rest of the way to make the playoffs. The task is again becoming daunting, and forward Corey Brewer is painfully aware. “We need a win before All-Star break. We got a lot of injuries, man,” Brewer said. “It’s tough when you have injuries.” They are indeed a team riddled with current injuries, and frustrated by another sub-par season. Healthy or not, the Wolves cannot get stops on defense.
LaMarcus Aldridge scored 16 of his 26 points in the second half and Wesley Matthews added 21 to help the Portland Trail Blazers hold off the injury-depleted Minnesota Timberwolves 117-110 Saturday night. Aldridge had six points during Portland’s game-deciding 13-1 run in the fourth quarter. Corey Brewer led Minnesota with 26 points and Ricky Rubio scored a career-high 25 for the Wolves, who were without All-Star Kevin Love, Nikola Pekovic and Kevin Martin.
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love isn’t playing against the Oklahoma City Thunder because of a stiff neck. The Timberwolves say Love hurt his neck in a hard fall during the fourth quarter of Minnesota’s win Tuesday over the Los Angeles Lakers. Minnesota coach Rick Adelman said Love had treatment before Wednesday’s game in an attempt to play. He was in the starting lineup given to media before the team announced he would be out.
Kevin Love had 19 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists to help the Minnesota Timberwolves run past Utah 112-97 on Tuesday night and sweep a home-and-home set with the Jazz.
Minnesota Timberwolves small forward Corey Brewer has been fined $5,000 by the NBA for violating the league’s anti-flopping rules for the second time this season. The punishment was levied on Monday.
Aaron Brooks scored a season-high 26 points to pick up the slack for the injured James Harden, and the Houston Rockets beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 112-101 on Saturday night. The Rockets led throughout, and Omri Casspi, Jeremy Lin and Brooks made consecutive 3-pointers in a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter and extend the lead to 91-74. Harden, who leads the Rockets with 24.2 points per game, sat out with a sore left foot. Lin started in his place and scored 19, but it was Brooks who shined.
Kevin Love had 33 points, eight rebounds and six assists, Ricky Rubio added 16 points and a career-high 16 assists, and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 124-95 on Wednesday night.
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love is the NBA’s Western Conference player of the week for the opening week of the season. Love leads the NBA with 29.7 points per game and is second with 14.7 rebounds per game. He powered the Wolves to three victories last week for their first 3-0 start since 2001. His off-balance, one-handed bank shot at Madison Square Garden on Monday night helped the Wolves hold off Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks. The league also issued Love a warning for flopping in the game against the Knicks. Love was warned for flopping when Knicks rookie Tim Hardaway Jr. bumped him at the top of the key in the fourth quarter.
The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Tuesday that forward Chase Budinger had successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and is out indefinitely. It’s the same knee that Budinger tore the meniscus cartilage in last November, causing him to miss most of last season.
Corey Brewer has tried everything in his career to put some weight on his 6-foot-8 frame. He has lifted weights, changed his diet, even indulged in deep fried Snickers bars at the Minnesota State Fair early in his career to try to add a little bit of bulk to a comically skinny body.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have turned over their roster many times since Corey Brewer was selected in the first round in 2007. Now Brewer himself has been traded away — and re-signed.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to a trade with Oklahoma City for guard Kevin Martin that also allowed them to land swingman Corey Brewer in free agency. The Wolves agreed to terms with Martin on a four-year contract worth nearly $30 million last week.
The Timberwolves acquired forward Anthony Randolph, center Eddy Curry, cash considerations from the New York Knicks and a 2015 second-round draft pick from the Denver Nuggets, in a three-team deal Tuesday.
The Wolves were blown out for the second straight game, this time by Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic.
