Spirit Mountain in Duluth will host a new snowmobile endurance racing event next month, Red Bull Snow Boundaries. It’s open to pro and amateur racers alike with more than $100,000 in cash and prizes.
The beautiful Luminary Loppet drew thousands to Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis Saturday night. Volunteers created 1,200 ice luminaries that lit a beautiful path. Organizers of the City of Lakes Loppet announced earlier this week that it would be a walking-only event because there wasn’t enough snow on the lake.
For those looking for something to get them outside this weekend, head to the Loppet Festival Saturday for the Skijoring event. Some may have heard the term, but for those who may be unfamiliar with the term it’s a ski race where dogs pull humans on cross country skis.
Once the wind calms down, and as long as you don’t have to drive, the snow adds a little more beauty to Minnesota this winter. And Fort Snelling State Park is inviting Minnesotans to get out and enjoy it!

Former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak successfully underwent a procedure Monday afternoon to remove a blockage from an artery. He’s recovering from a life-threatening heart attack which he suffered Saturday after cross-country skiing for nearly eight miles. Before Monday’s procedure, the former mayor continued his light-hearted banter on Twitter, posting a picture of himself in a hospital gown, framed as a GQ magazine cover.
Former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak is recovering in the hospital Saturday afternoon after suffering chest pains while cross-country skiing. According to officials at Abbot Northwestern Hospital, Rybak had completed 7.7 miles of skiing at Theodore Wirth Park with his wife before complaining of chest pains and shortness of breath. The former mayor was taken by ambulance to Abbot at 1 p.m., where he underwent an angioplasty and received two stents. Officials say he is currently resting. Rybak was upbeat when he tweeted two and a half hours after being admitted.
