Jim Kowalski died Thursday in a plane accident while fishing in Canada, according to family member Deb Kowalski. Deb Kowalski said Jim suffered a head injury in the incident, and an autopsy is being performed. She said he was with a friend on the trip. Jim Kowalski, 67, founded Kowalski’s Markets back in 1986 in White Bear Lake.
Authorities continue to search for a man they believe has information about a fatal shooting in Granite Falls, Minn. and they’re asking for the public’s help to find him.
An overnight shooting in Brooklyn Park left one man dead. Both Brooklyn Park police and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call at the 6200 block of Winnetka Avenue at 2 a.m. Saturday.
Police are investigating after a man’s body was found slumped over outside a building in Shoreview, Minn. Authorities say the man was found on the 5700 block of Hamline Avenue North.
A 38-year-old Eveleth man is dead after officials say he was hit by a train in northeastern Minnesota. The Saint Louis County Sheriff’s Office got a call just before 3 a.m. Sunday in Mountain Iron.
A 5-year-old boy has died after falling out of the bucket of a skid loader, and then getting crushed by the machine, authorities said. The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office got a call at 6:29 p.m. on Thursday that a boy had been injured in a skid loader accident at his residence on Sunset Trail in Cannon Falls Township.
Authorities said they’re looking for an outside agency to launch an investigation into the death last month of a Park Health and Rehab patient. The city of St. Louis Park said police responded to a report of a Park Health and Rehab patient behaving erratically while in possession of a knife and scissors on July 14.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is investigating a fish kill in Renville County. Authorities were called Wednesday night about dead fish in West Fork Beaver Creek south of Danube. Observers found dead northern pike, smallmouth bass, suckers and minnows in the creek.
A Hennepin County grand jury will review the case of a man who died during a struggle with Minneapolis police. And on Friday, Michael Padden, an attorney for Terrance Franklin’s family, said the Hennepin County Attorney should not be involved in the case. Police said Terrance Franklin was shot on May 10 after he tried to grab an officer’s gun.
The Minneapolis man found suffering from stab wounds on Sunday has died, according to authorities. Minneapolis police said the victim was located at 10:54 a.m. on Aug. 11 on the 2200 block of Portland Avenue South. Found lying in a driveway with stabbing injuries, he died after being transported to Hennepin County Medical Center.
St. Paul Police say they’ve arrested two people in connection with the shooting death of a Minnesota National Guard sergeant earlier this week. According to the St. Paul Police Department’s Twitter account, 24-year-old Heather Schwarz, of St. Paul, and 25-year-old Aaron Allen, of South St. Paul, have been arrested, and authorities aren’t seeking any other suspects. Charges are expected on Monday.
Police were called to the scene of a shooting in St. Paul Park at 1:45 a.m. Saturday. Once there, authorities found a man dead from a gun shot at the house on Fifth Street near Pullman. At this time, there’s no information about a suspect.
A woman was found dead alongside the road in Otsego early Saturday morning, but authorities aren’t suspecting foul play. Wright County Deputies responded to a report of an unconscious woman on the shoulder of Parrish Ave NE at the intersection of 93rd Circle NE at 12:35 a.m. Saturday. A woman had fallen from a moving vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A St. Paul man was sentenced Wednesday for his role in a “car surfing” accident in August 2012 that killed 21-year-old Shawn Swanson, also of St. Paul. Cole T. Fohrenkamm, 22, was sentenced for reckless driving and will serve three years of probation, 30 days in jail and will complete 300 hours of community service after the incident that took place last year near Oakland, Wis. One-quarter of Fohrenkamm’s community service has to involve educating others about the dangers of drinking and alcohol.
Police said they need the public’s help in identifying a vehicle that was known to have been in the area of where a homicide took place Monday night. Minneapolis police believe it’s a Mercury Grand Marquis, or a Ford Crown Victoria with a custom paint job in medium powder blue. The car has no hub caps, and the photos taken of the vehicle were from a security camera in the area of the shooting.
