Mpls. FD: Fire Death Toll Highest In 35 Years

A growing number of deadly fires in Minneapolis have officials preaching safety. Since the beginning of the year, 10 people, including five children, have died in fires in Minneapolis. Fire Chief John Fruetel says it’s been more than 35 years since the fire department has seen this many deaths.

Mpls. Father Reflects On Losing 5 Kids To Valentine’s Day Fire

The father who lost five of his seven children to a house fire on Valentine’s Day is speaking out. For 12 days, Troy Lewis has been at the side of his two surviving children. Lewis was able to grab 9-year-old Shaca and 5-year-old Electra from the duplex on Colfax Avenue North when it went up in flames.

Neighbors React To Tragic Duplex Fire In N. Mpls.

Only months after Troy Lewis’ family lost a wife and mother, a raging house fire in north Minneapolis claimed five more lives. Seven residents living on the main floor made it out alive, including Taleaha Cox. Seconds later, she heard Troy’s screams coming from the second floor. “My little brother’s like, ‘I think the house is on fire.’ And then all I heard was the man upstairs like, ‘Help! Police! Fire, fire, fire! Police!’” Cox said. “He was hanging out the window.”

Authorities: Deadly House Fire A Murder-Suicide

The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office says a deadly house fire in Lake Edward Township was a murder-suicide.
