There was some relief on the road Friday as westbound 394 in Minneapolis reopened after being reduced to just two lanes for weeks.
Motorists who are intending to drive south on Highway 77/Cedar Avenue will have to use a detour starting Friday, June 5. The stretch of highway from Old Shakopee Road to Highway 13 in Eagan and Bloomington will be closed to traffic starting at 8 p.m. that day.
The Twin Cities Marathon is still a few days away, but preps around the course are already underway and it may mean motorists will need to plan a detour.
The Highway 13 bridge over I-35W in Burnsville was supposed to be closed this weekend but it’ll now stay closed until crews can ensure its safe. That’ll put a kink in south metro traffic to begin the work week. The bridge was just having scheduled painting done, but crews noticed some damage and MnDOT decided to repair it.

There are three potential headaches awaiting motorists in the metro this weekend. A section of Highway 62 — between Highway 100 and 35W — is closed in both directions for the weekend, as crews are demolishing the Penn Avenue Bridge. The closure will last until 5 Monday morning, and detours are posted.
By this time in the season, we’re used to seeing construction cones and detours. Starting Sunday, there’ll be some new changes along 35E. According to MnDOT, crews will shift north and southbound traffic on the freeway between Cedar Avenue and the 35 split. It’ll be single lane, head-to-head traffic for the next two weeks. During that same time, 35-E ramps to County Road 11.
It’s the beginning of road closure time in the Twin Cities. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., expect delays both directions on I-494 between Highway 100 and Penn Avenue.
