Plouffe’s Return Sparks Twins To Win Over Tigers

Trevor Plouffe had three hits, including a two-run homer, in his return to the Twins lineup, and Sam Deduno held Detroit in check over seven innings in Minnesota’s 6-3 victory over the Tigers on Saturday night. Plouffe, back after missing 22 games because of a concussion and left calf strain, was a triple shy of the cycle. He drove in three runs in support of Deduno, who has allowed only five earned runs in his last five starts.

Fielder Fuels Porcello, Tigers To 4-0 Win At Twins

Prince Fielder broke open a scoreless game with a two-run double in the sixth inning, the spark that Rick Porcello and the Detroit Tigers used to beat the Minnesota Twins 4-0 on Friday night. Victor Martinez and Jhonny Peralta followed Fielder’s soaring drive with RBI doubles of their own, ending the night for Twins starter Scott Diamond (4-6). Even better for the Tigers was that the four-run cushion kept sputtering closer Jose Valverde out of a pressurized save situation.

Max Scherzer pitched six solid innings to remain undefeated this season, and Avisail Garcia broke the game open with a bases-loaded triple, leading the Detroit Tigers over the Minnesota Twins 6-1 on Sunday.

Joe Mauer homered and had three hits, helping the Minnesota Twins snap a 10-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Mauer had already earned the ire of Detroit fans when he broke up Anibal Sanchez’s no-hit bid in the ninth inning Friday night. He was booed when came to bat in the first inning Saturday — then booed some more after his solo homer to right field.
