Two Apple Valley, Minn. schools were evacuated Friday afternoon after a bomb threat. Apple Valley Police say the threat was phoned in to Valley Middle School at about 1 p.m. District 196’s communications specialist says both Valley and Southview Elementary School, which are connected, were both evacuated.
An Eagan elementary school is restricting access to its building after police warned the district that a man arrested in May outside of a Lakeville school was in the area. District 196 officials say Northview Elementary is in “shelter in place” mode, which means normal classroom operations are in effect but entrance to the building is restricted.
A former Eagan coach was cleared of six felony counts of theft by swindle in a Dakota County court Friday. Kurt Bruce Virgin, 61, was accused in May 2012 of swindling Independent School District 196 of almost $30,000, according to the Dakota County Attorney’s office. All six counts were dismissed on Friday. Virgin had worked during the summers as a coach at two basketball camps and one soccer camp.
