A Fridley man is charged with the attempted murder of his fiancée after cutting her throat Saturday morning, according to the Anoka County Attorney’s Office. Police officers subdued a 22-year-old man who began to cut his own throat after he was suspected of brutally assaulting his girlfriend Saturday. Fridley Police responded to reports of a domestic situation at 6373 Pierce St. NE, and encountered 22-year-old James Ahlers, who began to cut his throat before officers intervened.

A White Earth man was sentenced Thursday for assaulting a woman and possessing a short-barreled shotgun at the time of his arrest. Michael James Deegan, 24, was sentenced to 92 months and 60 months to be served concurrently for one count of possession of an unregistered firearm and one count of assault resulting in substantial bodily injury.
