The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is holding another town hall forum to educate the community about the dangers of heroin, and tell residents what they can do to help stop addiction before it starts.
Friends gathered for a candlelight vigil at the Maple Grove Arboretum Saturday night to remember the two people killed after a high-speed chase on Highway 212 last week. Police shot and killed 36-year-old Matthew Serbus of Brooklyn Center and 34-year-old Dawn Pfister of Delavan, Wis. Their deaths followed a chase with police though Eden Prairie on Highway 212 on Feb. 7. “It’s just really shocking,” said Serbus’ friend Sarah Higgins. “You never think that’s going to happen to someone you know.”
A woman who lost her fiancé to a heroin overdose says Minnesota lawmakers can do something about a growing epidemic that will save lives. On Saturday night, the Steve Rummler Hope Foundation hosted an event at Tuttles in Hopkins to raise awareness about drug addiction. Rummler died three years ago after a heroin overdose. He battled a prescription drug addiction for years following a back injury.
Sam Thomas suffered from crippling panic attacks. The attacks were so severe that Thomas would miss weeks of school at a time. Big groups terrified him. And the more school he missed, the worse the attacks got when another school day approached, creating a cycle that only got worse.
A dozen people have been taken to the hospital in the past 24 hours from overdosing on a particularly bad batch of meth. Deputies think the meth is coming from the east metro, and they are concerned.
