Charges: Man Was Drunk When He Ran Over His Wife

A 57-year-old man was drunk when he ran over his wife with a vehicle last week, according to recently filed criminal charges. Investigators said that David Christopher Meder was just getting home on the 2600 block of Arcola Lane in the city of Minnetonka Beach last Thursday when the accident happened.

Winona Cop Gets Probation For DWI

A man who pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated while serving as a Winona police officer will get one year of supervised probation and must pay a $1,000 fine. Earlier this month, Walski pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor DWI and he was granted a stay of imposition.

DPS: Plan A Sober Ride For Fishing Opener

As anglers head out for the 2014 Fishing Opener, authorities are sending out a reminder to plan for a sober ride if you plan on drinking this weekend. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said officers will be out in full force Friday in at least 25 counties around the state.

Charges: Driver Was Drunk When He Fatally Struck Couple At 95 MPH

A Golden Valley man was driving drunk at over 100 miles per hour the night he smashed into and killed a young couple in Minneapolis. Melvin Jones and Brandy Banks-Sutta were stopped at a light at Morgan Avenue North and Olson Memorial Highway on Nov. 3, 2013 when they were hit from behind. They were killed instantly.

Nearly 500 Arrested In MN Over St. Patrick’s Weekend

St. Patrick’s Day falling on a Monday meant a weekend-long celebration for some, and the Department of Public Safety says nearly 500 were arrested during increased DWI patrols. The DPS Office of Traffic Safety said that number may rise as additional information comes in.

Charges: Man Drove Under The Influence On Turkey Day With Son In Car

A St. Paul man faces a DWI charge after police say they stopped him on Thanksgiving morning going 84 mph in a 55 mph zone with his young son in the back seat. A criminal complaint says a state trooper stopped 31-year-old Brett Howard Wergeland after he was clocked speeding just before 9:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 52.

DPS: 1,500+ Arrested For DWI During Late Summer Crackdown

More than 1,500 drivers were arrested for drunk driving during the end-of-summer “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. Authorities said as many as 344 agencies arrested 1,556 impaired drivers during the campaign, which went from Aug. 16-Sept. 2.

State Patrol: 225 Drunk Drivers Caught Friday Night

More than 200 drivers are facing drunk-driving charges after just one night of increased patrols. According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, 225 drivers failed sobriety tests during Friday night. The department is also tweeting information about those arrested for DWI, including age, gender and blood alcohol level of offenders. The arrest location is also noted, but the names of the offenders are not revealed.

DPS: 5 Road-Related Deaths, 560 DWIs During July 4th Holiday Week

Five car crash-related deaths and 560 DWI arrests occurred during the Fourth of July holiday period, says the Department of Public Safety. During the holiday period – from Wednesday, July 3 at 5:30 p.m. through Sunday, July 7 – there were five people killed in four crashes. Three of the deaths were motorcyclists killed in two separate crashes on July 4 – the deadliest day of the year on Minnesota roads, according to DPS records. On the evening of July 3, a bicyclist was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in south Minneapolis.
