The middle of January is a great time of year for the winter high school sports season. You’re in the meat and potatoes of the conference season around the state, which means there are great games on a nightly basis.
Every high school football player that steps on the field in August has the goal of playing football in November. That means you’re in the state tournament, where anything is possible.
Their coach calls them The Iron 5. You can call them a restaurant owner’s worst nightmare. Either way, it’s probably a good thing we didn’t do this interview over lunch.

It’s starting to feel like fall, and the brisk weather is perfect for football. On Friday, David McCoy reported on the night’s featured game — Prior Lake at Rosemount. Unlike last week, the results were heavily one-sided. Still, it was a perfect night for football, as long as you brought along a sweatshirt or a blanket.

It’s not very often that the SEC comes to Minnesota for recruiting college football players. So when Nick Saban and Alabama came calling for East Ridge offensive lineman J.C. Hassenauer, he was happy to listen. Saban offered him a scholarship, and he accepted.
