A fast start and stout defense led to a second straight state football title for Grand Meadow. Michael Stejskal threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns as Grand Meadow beat Edgerton/Ellsworth 48-0 Friday in the 9-Man Championship at the Prep Bowl.
It’s a huge week for the four teams that are left in each class. You’re playing for something that might have only seemed like a dream in August: A chance to play for a state championship. The teams that advance this week head to TCF Bank Stadium to play in the Prep Bowl, while the others wonder what might have been after getting so close.
It’s hard to believe the prep football season came to a close with the Prep Bowl last weekend at the Metrodome. Six games were played over a two-day stretch in downtown Minneapolis. When it was all over, six teams were hoisting a state championship trophy.
Isaac Heard threw five touchdowns and set a Prep Bowl record with 368 yards passing to lead undefeated Edgerton-Ellsworth to its first 9-man state title, 36-28 over Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Friday.
It’s what every kid who plays high school football dreams of: The chance to play on the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving for a state championship.
