June 20 is known as “Juneteenth,” the oldest known celebration marking the end of slavery in the United Sates. People celebrated in Minneapolis Saturday at the North Mississippi Regional Park.
The 25th annual Twin Cities’ Juneteenth celebration brought thousands to North Mississippi Regional Park Saturday. Juneteenth commemorates the day Union Soldiers told slaves in Texas that the Civil War had ended and they were no longer enslaved. Juneteenth is much more than parades, barbeques and family reunions.
Juneteenth celebrations were held Saturday at the North Mississippi Regional Park. There were bands, food and many other family-friendly activities.
