The Electric Fetus says it’s “going to be a bigger line-up of in-store performances than ever” when the store celebrates Record Store Day Saturday. In its seventh year, Record Store Day features exclusive releases only available at indie record stores, in-store performances from many local artists, giveaways, local food trucks and more.
The digital revolution has changed the way people interact with music. CD and record collections have turned into pixilated merry-go-round lists of names and album covers that wash under your eyes with a flick of the thumb. I’m a fan of iTunes – it’s helped me find great artists (like Flying Lotus and Blockhead) — but for albums dear to me, I need a physical copy. I need something to place on a shelf, to lay under the gentle needle, to hold in my hands as a document, like a love letter, a diary, a protest.
