Residents have reported receiving phone calls from males and females from a number that matches the Minneapolis Police Department’s Fifth Precinct on caller ID. Authorities say the caller identifies themselves as being with the IRS and that the Minneapolis Police Department is going to “put them behind bars.”
Minneapolis police are warning the public of a scam that uses the department’s phone number. Police say they’ve received reports from people who said they were contacted by someone claiming to be with the IRS. The caller ID shows the Fifth Precinct main number: 612-673-5705.
Police in Minneapolis are investigating and telling residents to be on alert after at least five luring incidents have been reported since May 2. Authorities said they’ve all taken place in the Fifth Precinct but it’s unclear if they are related.
