Minnesota coach Flip Saunders says he plans to rest Kevin Garnett for the Timberwolves’ game against the Chicago Bulls.
Kevin Garnett’s emotional return to Minnesota after almost eight years has stirred nostalgia for the only stretch of success the Timberwolves franchise has ever had. It also created some skepticism for the amount of help a 38-year-old power forward can provide to a team at the bottom of the Western Conference.
Kevin Garnett is officially back with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the organization and fans couldn’t be happier. The best player in the history of the franchise met the media Tuesday afternoon after he was traded just before the end of the NBA deadline last Thursday.

As the losses have mounted for the Minnesota Timberwolves, injured point guard Ricky Rubio has never been missed more. As a minority owner, team president and coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Flip Saunders holds as much power in one organization as any person in the NBA. What sounds like the ideal situation for a person who is confident in his abilities to evaluate talent, build a roster and develop young players into difference-making professionals can have its downside, and Saunders hit that in the early morning hours on Thursday after his team allowed the Philadelphia 76ers snap a 17-game losing streak on Minnesota’s home court.
