Minnesota Reservation Joins Buyback Program

An American Indian band in northeastern Minnesota is joining a government effort to return lands on reservations to tribal ownership. The U.S. Interior Department says the Fond du Lac Band of Minnesota Chippewa is among 21 Indian communities in 12 states that will join the land buyback program by 2017. That brings the number of locations in the program to 42.

Fond Du Lac Band To Spear Walleyes In 13 Lakes

The Fond du Lac Band of Chippewa has named 13 northeastern Minnesota lakes where members intend to exercise their treaty rights to spear walleyes this spring. The tribe worked with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to set quotas and select the lakes.

Fond Du Lac Tribal Police Seek Help Finding Missing Man

Authorities in northern Minnesota are asking for help finding a missing 22-year-old man who was last heard from late last month. Michial David Annamitta Jr. was last heard from on Nov. 23, 2013, the Fond du Lac Tribal Police Department says. He had been staying in Sawyer, Minn., about 30 miles southwest of Duluth.
