A judge says a cancer-stricken 73-year-old man accused of killing his wife in 1997 can leave an Iowa prison and live at his Minnesota home until trial.
A former University of Iowa researcher has pleaded not guilty to killing his wife in 1997. John Richard Bloomfield entered the plea in writing Thursday. The filing waived his right to an in-person arraignment hearing, which had been scheduled for Friday.
An attorney for a man charged in the 1997 slaying of his wife in Iowa City says he hasn’t decided whether to challenge his extradition from Minnesota. John Bloomfield is expected to appear in court Thursday in St. Paul. The 73-year-old has been jailed since his arrest last week at his St. Paul home.
