Two teenagers could face charges after a playground at a school in Fridley was destroyed by fire over the weekend. Fridley Police and fire officials were called to Hayes Elementary School on the 600 block of Mississippi Street at about 2:57 p.m. Saturday on a report that that playground equipment was on fire.
Three men, one armed with a gun, are still at large after robbing a Fridley bank Thursday evening. According to the FBI’s Minneapolis field office, three men entered the TCF Bank at 52050 Central Ave. NE at 7:00 p.m. All three approached the main counter and demanded money. One man was armed with a handgun. The robbers left with an undisclosed amount of money and fled southbound on Central Avenue. Witnesses believe they were in a gray passenger vehicle. All three men wore black masks. Two were wearing dark clothing, while the third wore a white jumpsuit.
Family and friends gathered at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Lake on Saturday to honor 38-year-old Officer Barry Pankonin, a 12-year veteran on the Fridley Police Department.
