A man in Northern Michigan discovered some spectacular ice caves forming on Lake Michigan. When Eric Lepaugh saw mounds forming along the lakeshore, he made the trek out onto the frozen waters and found some spectacular ice caves.
With more than 10,000 lakes, Minnesota has thousands of lakeside bars and restaurants. This time of year, though, there’s a bar in west-central Minnesota that’s actually on a lake. It’s known as Hillbillies Ice Hole, and it’s on the northern end of Lake Lida, about 300 yards from the public access point.
At least 50 volunteers spent Saturday outside, adding ice to an already frozen lake. They were “hatching” ice luminaries on Lake of the Isles, which will be safely stored until the City of Lakes Luminary Loppet on Feb. 1.
