After construction that took more than three years, local, state and federal officials are getting ready to dedicate the brand new, $130 million Hastings Bridge over the Mississippi River.
Demolition began on the Hastings Bridge this Wednesday, as motorists in the Twin Cities bid farewell to “Old Blue.” Crews started tearing down the landmark bridge at 7 a.m. The demolition crews will begin by removing the decking on the downtown side.
This morning drivers who use Highway 61 to get to and from Wisconsin are going to notice a big change. The new Hastings Bridge is opening. The bridge over the Mississippi has been under construction for three years.
