Dog Dies In Fire At Home Attached To Hastings Taxidermy Business

A dog has been killed after a garage fire in Hastings early Saturday morning. Fire officials say it happened on the 1900 block of Oak Street. The fire started in the detached garage of the home, which is part of Sykora’s Taxidermy business.

Dakota County Goes High Tech To Fight Crime

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office has created a Electronic Crimes Task Force, dedicated to solving crimes on the Internet, such as a recent “swatting” incident in Woodbury. Captain Jim Rogers says the problem continues to grow and change. “Back in 2003, a 20 or 40 gigabyte hard drive was big, now we are talking about terabyte hard drives,” Rogers said.

2 Charged In Separate Infant Deaths In Dakota County

Two people were charged in Dakota County Friday in separate cases involving the deaths of infants. The Dakota County Attorney’s office charged 46-year-old Paul Richard Sandell and 63-year-old Janet Marie Kartheiser with one count each of second-degree manslaughter.

The man accused of shooting and killing a Mendota Heights police officer is expected in Dakota County Court on Wednesday. Brian Fitch Sr. was captured in July after an eight-hour manhunt. He’s accused of killing Officer Scott Patrick during a traffic stop.

Two Hastings men are accused of prostituting an underage girl as a form of payment in a drug deal, according to charges filed in Dakota County Court. William Dale Willis, 25, and Daniel Rashaun Gopie, 27, were each charged with two felony counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with the Sept. 21 incident.

The 39-year-old Fitch is accused of fatally shooting Officer Scott Patrick during a traffic stop July 30 in West St. Paul.

Minnesota Man Charged In Strangling Death

A West St. Paul man is being held on $1.5 million bond in the strangling death of his girlfriend. Marc Bakambia was charged Monday with second-degree intentional murder in Dakota County court in the August death of 24-year-old Dorothy Redd.

1 Injured In Motorcycle Crash In Pierce Co.

A Hastings man was injured in a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon in Trimbelle Township, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. Matthew Tutehohl, 38, was flown to Regions Hospital Saturday with undetermined injuries. The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m .on County Road O near 480th Avenue.

Authorities: Man Drowns In St. Croix River

Authorities said a man disappeared under water in the St. Croix River Sunday night. Washington County Sheriff’s dispatch said rescue crews arrived at Point Douglas Beach in Hastings, Minn. around 5 p.m. According to officials, Juan Gabriel Diaz, 40, swam out to the buoy line at the beach.
