Seventeen-year-old Rudy Hummel hasn’t let one of the coldest winters in decades, drenching rain or clouds of mosquitoes prevent him from sleeping outside every night for a full year. Hummel was preparing Friday to spend one last night in his treehouse at his family’s home in Hermantown.
A northern Minnesota teen who is vowing to sleep outside for a year is planning to help two charities.
The Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory in Duluth kicks off its annual Hawk Weekend Festival Friday. The festival includes presentations Friday evening, and a variety of field trips, workshops, interpretive programs and live bird demonstrations Saturday and Sunday.
