Police: Missing Toddler Found Safe In Minnetonka

Authorities are investigating after a toddler went missing in Minnetonka for more than five hours Tuesday night before eventually being located in her mother’s vehicle. Police were called 10761 Smetana Road at about 11:53 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a missing 2-and-a-half year-old girl.

Man Who Jumped Into Mississippi River Charged

A 19-year-old man is charged with a misdemeanor after authorities say he jumped off a bridge in a Twin Cities suburb in the name of charity. The Hennepin County sheriff’s office said Monday that Joseph Mark Sanislo of Coon Rapids is charged with one count of disorderly conduct.

Man Takes Metro Police On 30-Min., Multi-City Chase

A man suspected of driving under the influence took police on a half-hour, multi-city chase early Saturday morning, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy attempted to pull over a 26-year-old driver at about 3 a.m. near Interstate 94 and Hemlock Lane in Maple Grove.

Officials: Teen Dies After Being Pulled From Plymouth Pool

A 17-year-old died Friday evening after he was pulled from an indoor pool at an apartment complex in Plymouth. Benedict Richardson was unresponsive when his father pulled him from the water at about 7 p.m., the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Religious Head Coverings Allowed For Henn. Co. Jail Inmates

Inmates at the Hennepin County Jail in Minneapolis will now be allowed to wear religious head coverings while incarcerated. The announcement about the policy – the first of its kind in Minnesota – was made Thursday by Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek. “I am extremely proud of our current efforts to recognize the religious rights and beliefs of all inmates,” Stanek said. “The addition of this policy enhances our efforts to be more culturally aware.”

How To Survive After Falling Though Ice

With 104 lakes and three rivers in Hennepin County alone, Sheriff Rich Stanek says it’s a busy time for ice rescues in Minnesota. “Maybe you had subzero temperatures, but you’re going to go through,” Stanek said. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s office responded to 25 rescue calls out on the lakes last winter from people falling through the ice. Three people were killed. “The most important thing is to stay calm,” he said.

Friends Seek Answers After Minnetonka Police Kill Man

Friends and family of a man shot and killed by Minnetonka Police last month say they are still waiting for answers. Police shot 27-year-old Michael Tray several times on Oct. 23. They were called to Claremont Apartments around 8:30 p.m. after someone said they saw a man walking around with a gun. Police confronted Tray in the underground parking garage, where he was shot and killed. Michael Strunk met him five years ago in college. Like so many other people, Michael hit off with the man simply known as “Tray.”
