Public Weighs In On Changing St. Paul School Starting Times

St. Paul Public Schools is considering a later start time for high school and middle school students. “Studies have been shown that they have different sleep patterns than smaller children and adults and they are better performers later on in the day,” Creative Arts High School teacher Lora Healam said.

‘College Possible’ Makes Prom A Possibility For 250 Teens

Prom is a tradition every high school student should have the opportunity to experience. An organization called College Possible made prom possible for hundreds of students in the metro Saturday. The non-profit organized a dress giveaway at its headquarters in St. Paul, where 250 young ladies signed up to pick out a dress, along with accessories and shoes.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Beats Rushford-Peterson For 1A Title

Brian Goodwin scored 14 of his 24 points in the second half to lead Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa past Rushford Peterson 52-40 in the Minnesota 1A state championship game on Saturday. After blowing an early double-digit lead, the top-ranked Jaguars (31-1) won their second state title in three years thanks to Goodwin’s poise in the final 10 minutes. Down 34-30 with 10:33 to play, Goodwin fueled a 13-5 game-deciding run that included seven-consecutive free throws.

Big Changes In Store For SAT Test

College board officials announced this week that an update to the SAT test is needed to make the exam more representative of what high school students study in class. The changes don’t go into effect until 2016, which means this year’s ninth graders will be the first to take it in their junior year. It’s a tough test that creates anxiety, and one that requires practice and sometimes even a tutor.

Mpls. High Schools See Uptick In Enrollment

When Minneapolis students had back to class a week from Monday, the district will experience something it hasn’t in more than a decade – a spike in the number of high school students attending Minneapolis Public Schools. For the first time since 2001, enrollment district-wide will be more than 34,000 students – nearly more than 400 than last year.
