Hockey Day Minnesota
Alright Wild fans, are you back on the bandwagon yet? I, of course, never got off. But was last night’s win enough to get you back to believing in this team? It was enough for WCCO-TV reporter Rachel Slavik, who sent me the following text after last night’s game:
The 8th annual Hockey Day Minnesota took place on Saturday starting with a trio of high school games in Elk River, Minn. That was followed by a game at Mariucci Arena between Ohio State and Minnesota, with the nightcap taking place at Xcel Energy Center between the Minnesota Wild and the Dallas Stars.
The all-day celebration of Minnesota’s official sport is underway across the State of Hockey on Saturday. Outdoor hockey is at its finest at picturesque Handke Pit in Elk River. Mayor John Dietz says it’s a special venue with a lot of history. “You know, it’s kind of a rebirth of how the sport was born. It’s just a unique type of thing,” Dietz said.
The University of Minnesota men’s hockey program released its television schedule Monday for the upcoming 2013-14 season, and 31 of its 36 regular season games will have a broadcast. It will be the first year for the Gophers and coach Don Lucia in the newly-formed Big Ten Conference.
It was a big weekend for hockey in Minnesota; and the athletes that took part weren’t only playing to win, they were playing to help a wounded player.
This year’s Hockey Day Minnesota is unlike any other in the history of the six-year-old event.
This year’s Hockey Day Minnesota will be dedicated to the family of Jack Jablonski, the Benilde-St. Margaret’s hockey player paralyzed in a game last month.
