DNR: More Than 40 Wolves Harvested On Opening Weekend

Minnesota hunters killed more than 40 wolves over the hunt’s opening weekend, slightly fewer than the number harvested in last year’s inaugural wolf hunt opener, according to DNR reports.

Bemidji Lands 2014 Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener

Bemidji has been chosen to host next year’s Minnesota Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener. Gov. Mark Dayton made the announcement in Fergus Fall on Friday as part of the 11th annual festivities ahead of the state’s firearms deer opener, which falls on Saturday this year.

The average Minnesota hunter spends $1,500 each year, and many of those who track deer will take a short break this weekend to enjoy a fine meal. Edward Moody and Jamie Yuccas from the WCCO This Morning show got in on the adventure as they headed north for a week to learn about the hunting craze. Federal Lands Closed To Minn. Pheasant Hunters

Minnesota pheasant hunters will find less land available when the season opens Saturday. Due to the federal government shutdown, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has closed 13 national wildlife refuges and eight wetland management districts in Minnesota, totaling more than 489,000 acres of land.
