Two people are dead after two separate incidents occurred overnight in south Minneapolis. One was shot, the other stabbed. The shooting happened just before midnight Friday on the 2700 block of Blaisdell Avenue South.
At the Hub Bike Co-op in South Minneapolis, lately customers are calling about their new bikes being stolen. “We end up talking to somebody replacing a bike that has been stolen almost every day,” Hub Bike Co-op employee David Meyer said.
Four people were hospitalized – and a man suffered gunshot wounds – Friday evening after a shooting and related car crashes on the city’s north side.
In the past three weeks, in broad daylight, someone walked up to two University of Minnesota students and grabbed them. In both cases a man approached the women near campus, touched them inappropriately and ran off.

A new survey from Public Opinion Strategies of Washington, D.C. reveals that 14 percent of parents say they’ve left their children alone in a car. For parents of children under three years old, that percentage jumps to 23 percent. The study also found fathers are three times more likely (23 percent) than mothers (8 percent) to leave kids in cars.
Minneapolis Police say a juvenile was shot while walking down a north Minneapolis street early Wednesday night. Police spokesman John Elder says the young male was walking on North Lowry and Logan avenues around 6 p.m. when he heard gunshots, and soon realized he had been shot. The juvenile sought help nearby and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
A woman suffered critical injuries Wednesday night when she was hit by a commercial truck in a busy shopping center near Lake Calhoun. John Elder, a Minneapolis police spokesman, says the woman had been waiting at a red light at 6:15 p.m., trying to cross West Lake Street.
Doctors fear a cold New Year’s Eve can create big problems for party goers. Dr. Ryan Fey from the Hennepin County Medical Center says frostbite can strike within minutes. “In extreme cold, you could be looking at frostbite in two to five minutes,” Fey said. People trying to ring in the new year with a few libations can get in to big trouble if they mix it with the extreme cold.
A sellout crowd is expected at Mall of America Field on Sunday when the Minnesota Vikings play the Detroit Lions during their final game at the Metrodome. That has police and dome staff preparing for the anything.
When it’s cold outside, you can find cars and minivans warming up without the driver inside of them. And police say thieves are out looking them. Minneapolis Police tell WCCO they’ve seen a spike in car thefts in southeast Minneapolis’ Third Precinct. Officers say 17 cars were stolen between Dec. 10 and Dec. 18 in that part of the city.
