Two men have pleaded guilty in separate drunken driving crashes in Minneapolis that each resulted in a death.
An alleged drunk driver who struck and killed a bicyclist Monday night was charged Friday with criminal vehicular homicide. According to the Hennepin County Attorney’s office, John Iverson, 49, faces up to 10 years in prison after killing 26-year-old Marcus Nalls with his van. Witnesses say Iverson sped west down Franklin Avenue Monday night when he suddenly swerved towards the curb, hit Nalls off of his bike and then ran him over. According to the criminal complaint, Iverson continued driving down the block until his van stopped after hitting a dumpster.
An experienced bicyclist who recently moved to Minneapolis was run over and killed Monday night by an alleged drunk driver. Marcus Nalls was biking home from his new job at the downtown Hyatt Regency. He was then run over by a van on West Franklin Avenue and pinned underneath. Crews had to use special equipment to lift it off him.
Police said a bicyclist was hit and killed in south Minneapolis Monday night, and the driver in the crash may have been drinking. Authorities responded to the crash between a van and a bicyclist at about 9:51 p.m. Monday near the area of Franklin and Garfield Avenues.
