Authorities say at least one person died Tuesday night in a fire in north central Minnesota. The Kanabec County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Ogilvie Fire Department and Mora Area Fire Department were called to a structure fire Tuesday night in Ann Lake Township.
A 62-year-old man from North Branch was killed Saturday after hitting a deer with his motorcycle north of the Twin Cities metro. Authorities said the crash happened at about 9:30 a.m. on 195th Avenue about a quarter mile east of Rainbow Street in Comfort Township, which is just east of Mora.
A 34-year-old man accused of drunken driving likely will be charged with criminal vehicular homicide in the death of a Sandstone teenager. Seventeen-year-old Colton Nelson was killed last week in a two-car accident near his home in rural Kanabec County. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Police in Mora are asking for the public’s help after a large wood processor was stolen from a business. Authorities said the incident happened at about 6 a.m. Tuesday on the 2200 block of Highway 65 in Mora.
Every morning, Jim Morrison looks forward to his routine jog down seldom-driven 215th Avenue, where wildlife and cattle are often his only company. But a half mile into his jog Monday morning, the scenery would turn into anything but ordinary. “So I saw rabbit tracks and I saw deer tracks and I saw turkey tracks, and then I come about here and then there’s tire tracks,” Morrison said. He followed the tracks through the snow, through a fence and into a creek bed below. That’s where he found a truck was nearly upside down in the water.
