Fire At La Crosse Fuels Plant Extinguished

Firefighters in La Crosse have contained a blaze that erupted from an explosion at a fuels plant. Officials say the explosion and fire erupted in an above-ground tank containing an unknown amount of diesel fuel and asphalt at Midwest Fuels Wednesday about 7 a.m.

Wisconsin Truck Driver Arrested In Fatal Crash

Wisconsin authorities have arrested a man who they say caused a fatal crash in a dump truck while he was intoxicated. The La Crosse County District Attorney’s Office says the 36-year-old man faces a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle in the July crash that killed 29-year-old Jason Songer of La Crescent, Minnesota.

A Wisconsin woman who was charged with stealing back 15 cats from the Humane Society was arrested for violating the conditions of her bond. Lee Ann Shore, 46, was arrested last month after she allegedly broke into the Coulee Region Humane Society in Onalaska, Wis.

Missing Taxi Driver Found Dead In Trunk

La Crosse police say a taxi driver was found dead in the trunk of his vehicle after an officer tried pulling over the man behind the wheel. Authorities say the officer thought the vehicle was suspicious and when he ran the license plate about 1 a.m. Friday he learned it belonged to a 79-year-old taxi driver reported missing in Platteville.

A small town in Wisconsin turned to dynamite when heavy machinery wouldn’t clear up an ice dam on a creek in the town. The Town of Onalaska, near La Crosse, Wis., used dynamite to blow up ice on Sand Lake Coulee Creek that was, at some points, six feet deep.

Authorities in La Crosse, Wis., said the body of a 21-year-old Winona State University student was found Wednesday after her car went through the ice in a creek. Police and fire departments in La Crosse were called to an accident at about 1:27 a.m. Wednesday, New Year’s Day, after a report of a vehicle in the water in Swift Creek.

A La Crosse woman could face animal cruelty charges after her boyfriend’s dog was found dead. Police say the 32-year-old woman broke into the man’s apartment early Thursday and strangled the basset hound, Jixer, with a choke collar.

Mary Hvsida lives near La Crosse, Wis., and as you can tell, she’s been playing drums since she was 15. Every few months, the 63 year old pops into a local drum shop, plays the drums, then leaves. No one really knew who she was, until a video of her playing went viral this week. Since her last band broke up 13 years ago, Mary says she gets the urge to play every now and again.

Dr., Brother Killed In Madeline Island Plane Crash

Ashland County authorities say a La Crosse doctor and his brother were killed in a single-engine plane crash on Madeline Island. Sheriff Mick Brennan identifies the victims as the pilot, 63-year-old Dr. Richard Renwick, and his brother, 58-year-old Bruce Renwick from Waunakee. WXOW-TV reports Dr. Renwick was a physician in obstetrics and gynecology at Gundersen Health System.

Nearly a dozen people are recovering Monday morning after authorities said their houseboat capsized in the Mississippi River. The accident apparently went over a roller gate at Lock and Dam 7 near Dresbach, Wis., around 5:30 p.m. Monday.
