Gov. Mark Dayton caught and released a northern pike at his first Governor’s Fishing Opener, shortly after a send-off ceremony at Lake Pokegama near Grand Rapids on Saturday.
Gov. Mark Dayton is fishing near Grand Rapids for his first Governor’s Fishing Opener, a tradition dating back to 1948.
The Minnesota fishing opener is just hours away, and local anglers were busy getting ready at various spots on Friday.
The fishing season officially opens one minute past midnight Saturday. Governor Dayton will be fishing on Lake Pokegama in Grand Rapids, site of this year’s Governor’s Fishing Opener.
