There’s a big transit vote Wednesday for the St. Paul City Council. They must decide whether to move ahead with a study that would make way for streetcars to return to downtown St. Paul. The project would cost $250 million.
A pedestrian was hit by a Blue Line light rail train in Minneapolis on Friday afternoon. According to Metro Transit officials, the accident occurred at 2:50 p.m. at the intersection of E 35th Street and Highway 55.
The METRO Green Line light-rail train collided with a car in St. Paul, Minn. Monday night. According to Metro Transit officials, the train and the car hit at 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of University Avenue and N. Hampden Avenue.
Now that the light rail’s new Green Line is up and running, some businesses in St. Paul are hoping it’ll pay off. Not the least among them, food trucks. Many local food trucks don’t spend much time in St. Paul but that could soon be changing.
The Green Line light rail that runs between St. Paul and Minneapolis is opening for business. Service on the Green Line will officially start at 10 a.m. Saturday after a ribbon cutting ceremony at Union Depot on St. Paul.
It’s being called the Grand Central Station of Minnesota. The newest light rail station opened Saturday at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis. It will serve as a hub for the light rail as well as Northstar trains. Commuters can also connect to bus routes and bike trails there.

The forthcoming commuter line connecting the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul via light rail train is likely scheduled to run 24 hours a day, every day. The Green Line was originally set to run only from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily, with a four-hour gap on the overnights.

Two people are hospitalized after a shooting in downtown Minneapolis early Saturday morning. According to Minneapolis Police, the shooting happened near a light rail platform on the 300 block of Fifth Street North near Target Field at about 3 a.m.

Travelers are now being advised to get to MSP two-and-a-half-hours early to make sure you make your flight. Airport officials say a perfect storm of factors have led to some the longest security lines in years, which have caused a lot of people to miss flights.
Commuters taking light-rail trains to and from downtown Minneapolis this weekend will be hopping on a bus for a portion of their trip, according to Metro Transit officials. The Blue Line, formerly called the Hiawatha Line, will undergo scheduled maintenance from Friday at 7:30 p.m. till Monday at 3:30 a.m. between the Target Field and Franklin Avenue stations.

Metro Transit and Miller Lite will provide free bus and light rail rides on New Year’s Eve for the third year in a row. From 6 p.m. till the last scheduled trip, residents will be treated to complimentary rides on all Metro Transit buses and light rail, METRO Blue and Red lines, Plymouth Metrolink, Anoka County and Minnesota Valley Transit Authority buses. Metro Transit officials say they have provided more than one million rides through the Miller Free Rides Program on New Year’s Eve, and for the last 16 years on St. Patrick’s Day.
The father of the 9-year-old boy who stowed away on a flight to Las Vegas is now speaking out, as his son is reportedly on his way back to Minnesota. The father did not want his name or face revealed, because his son is a minor, and according to a CNN source, the boy was being returned “because the jurisdiction where the boy is from is where issues will be addressed.”
Senator Amy Klobuchar met Monday in Minneapolis with the newly confirmed U.S. Transportation secretary Anthony Foxx. They met to discuss Minnesota’s transportation needs and investing federal money into new light rail and state highway projects. “A strong transportation system insures that a working mom can spend less time in traffic and more time with her kids,” Foxx said.
Starting Friday, each route the light rail takes is getting a new name. They’ll be colors instead of being named after streets, or the areas they serve. The Hiawatha Light Rail Line will now be called the Metro Blue Line.
The 49-year-old man who was killed after being hit by a light rail train on the Hiawatha line has been identified.
