Macy’s Santaland Returns For 52nd Year

Starting Saturday, one of the classic holiday attractions of Minneapolis will be open to the public. Santaland is located on the eight floor of Macy’s downtown store. Denise Cattoor is vice president store manager. “This is the 52nd year of Santaland, and we’re very excited to have this tradition for all of our customers here in the Twin Cities,” Cattoor said.

Some Retailers To Start ‘Black Friday’ On Thanksgiving Day

This year the Black Friday stampede will start earlier than ever. Best Buy , Toys “R” US and JCPenney have all announced they will open at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. Target is joining Sears, Kohl’s and Macy’s with 6 p.m. Thanksgiving openings. Last year those four stores opened at 8 p.m.

Accused Shoplifter Charged With Assaulting Macy’s Employees

An accused shoplifter has been charged with attacking store employees when he was confronted about the theft. According to a criminal complaint, 20-year-old Carlos Antoine Smith of Rochester, Minn. was at a Macy’s store in Burnsville, Minn. last Saturday.

Last year there was a furor over Target opening at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. This year, Target will open one hour earlier on Thanskgiving. It is of course not just Target; almost every major retailer this year is opening on Thanksgiving Day. Even one of last year’s big holdouts — Macy’s — will open at 6 p.m.
