Fire Rips Through Historic Waterville Building

Fire crews responded to a multi-unit structure fire in downtown Waterville, Minn. Thursday morning. According to Waterville Fire Chief Chris Meskan, the structure affected is the Old Rogers Building, located on 128 3rd Street South.

Body Found On Mpls. Riverbank Identified As ‘U’ Student

Minneapolis Police are investigating after a man’s body was found lying on the riverbank, just east of the Stone Arch Bridge. Authorities say they received a 911 call around 8:45 a.m. Sunday regarding an unresponsive person lying on the ground.

MnDOT: Sinkhole Has Highway 10 Partially Closed

An Elk River sinkhole has the left lane of westbound Highway 10, just east of Main Street, closed, MnDOT said. Crews are working and the lane is expected to re-open by 4 p.m. Friday as the pavement needs more time to set because of the hot weather.

Good Question: Why Not Bury Power Lines?

This weekend’s storms took out power for hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans, mostly because of wind and the trees that fell on power lines. According to Xcel Energy, two-thirds of its power lines are above ground. So, that led Wayne from Bloomington to ask: Why don’t power companies bury some of those lines? According to Kent Larson, Xcel Energy’s senior vice-president for operations, the big issue is the hefty price tag.
