Lightning Causing Damage To Several Twin Cities Homes

Metro area fire officials said Tuesday a handful of Twin Cities homes have been struck by lightning in the past couple of weeks. One Maple Grove man helped his neighbors escape after lightning struck Monday night in the 9300 block of Magnolia Lane North.

Authorities executed a search warrant Monday at a property north of the Twin Cities in connection with the 1989 disappearance of Amy Sue Pagnac. It’s the second search warrant to be executed in the case in recent weeks.

Man Takes Metro Police On 30-Min., Multi-City Chase

A man suspected of driving under the influence took police on a half-hour, multi-city chase early Saturday morning, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy attempted to pull over a 26-year-old driver at about 3 a.m. near Interstate 94 and Hemlock Lane in Maple Grove.

Teacher On Leave After Leaving Angry ‘Pocket Dial’ Voice Mail

A Twin Cities teacher is on paid administrative leave after leaving a message in which she could be heard saying she might strangle a student. The message was left on the voice mail of the mother of a hearing-impaired first grader, and was the result of an alleged “pocket dial.”

Edina Man Dies In Crash On I-94 In Maple Grove

A 33-year-old Edina man was killed Sunday when his car went off the road on Interstate 94 in Maple Grove and hit a building, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Authorities responded to the crash at about 3:58 p.m. Sunday on eastbound I-94 at Maple Grove Parkway.

Police Search For Robber Who Hit 2 Metro Banks Within 90 Mins.

Maple Grove Police are working to track down a robber who struck two banks on Tuesday. The suspect, described as a black man in his 40s or 50s, first robbed a TCF Bank in Burnsville just after 4 p.m.

Councilwoman Sentenced For Stealing Money From Dying Dad

A Maple Grove city councilwoman who pleaded guilty to a charge accusing her of stealing thousands of dollars from her dying father has been sentenced to serve 60 days in the Hennepin County Workhouse. Leann Sargent, 63, specifically pleaded guilty to one felony count of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult on the morning of Feb. 5.

A veteran school bus driver is being credited with some quick thinking that may have saved the lives of his passengers. Alfred Lewis, 59, was transporting four special needs students to Elm Creek Elementary in Maple Grove around 8:20 a.m. Thursday morning.

23 Sick From Salmonella At Maple Grove Restaurant

A salmonella outbreak has been linked to a Maple Grove restaurant. Minnesota Department of Health and Hennepin County officials say at least 23 people got sick after eating at Old Country Buffet in late January. One person was hospitalized but has since been released.

GOP’s Zellers Won’t Run For Re-Election To House

Republican Kurt Zellers, a former House speaker now running for governor, will not run for another term in the House. Zellers announced his decision Monday. He has represented the Twin Cities suburbs of Maple Grove and Osseo in the state House since 2003. Last year, Zellers launched a bid to challenge Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton this November. He’s one among a crowded field of Republicans seeking to unseat Dayton, and Zellers’ plan to run in August’s Republican primary would have complicated a simultaneous state House re-election bid.

A fresh round of snow made for a tough Saturday afternoon on roads in the Twin Cities metro area. At Interstate 35 and 210th Street in Lakeville, there was a crash scene involving nearly a dozen vehicles. Several of them also slid into the median.
