A Gluten-Free Camp For Kids? It’s Right Here In Minnesota

Over the past few years, most of us have become familiar with the term “gluten-free.” About 1 percent of the population has celiac disease, which means no wheat, rye or barley. For kids with those types of allergies, there is respite right here in Minnesota. In Maple Lake, one of the only gluten-free camps in the country is being held this week.

Sheriff: Man, 23, Drowns In Douglas County Lake

Authorities said a 23-year-old Alexandria man died Wednesday night in a drowning incident in a Douglas County lake. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was called to Maple Lake on the 12000 block of Forada Beach Road SE just after 5 p.m. on a possible drowning and that a victim was found in the lake.

Maple Lake Ice Fishing Derby Turns 39

In it’s 39th year, the Maple Lake Ice Fishing Derby was held Saturday afternoon. Besides fishing, the event featured a vintage snowmobile show and an ice-auger drilling contest. Photojournalist Mike Durenberger has all the sights and sounds from the derby.

Sheriff: Bomb Threat Cancels Classes At Maple Lake

Authorities said classes had to be canceled at a school north and west of the Twin Cities on Wednesday after a threat was made against the school. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a bomb threat at about 11:10 a.m.

Maple Lake Public Schools have canceled classes after a threat was left in a bathroom stall, according to officials. At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, a threat was found on a bathroom wall. In response, the school canceled classes for the rest of the day.
