Filipino-Minnesotans Rally To Help In Typhoon’s Wake

One of the most powerful storms ever ravaged several of the Philippine islands, and the death toll is rapidly growing. As of Saturday night, as many as 10,000 are feared dead. The storm had winds of 190 miles per hour – making it the strongest tropical typhoon on record to make landfall. The wind snapped trees and pushed waves up to four-stories high. Cleanup and rescue operations are extremely difficult since there is no power and no phones in most places.

State Patrol: Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Car In Maplewood

A female pedestrian was hit and killed by a car while crossing Highway 120 in Maplewood Tuesday night, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Maplewood Police and the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident at about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday near the area of Highway 120 and 10th Street N.

When your motto is making “freaky fast” deliveries, the last thing you need to see are orange barrels and detour signs. It’s been a tough summer for Jimmy John’s delivery driver Joshua McClain. “The way [the] highway is is just stopping our business from getting here,” McClain said. “So I’m not getting in as many hours of work. And I mean, just to get anyplace, period, 694 is a highway that everybody uses.”

Pilot Remembered As Loving Dad After Dying In Crash

Mosquito control helicopters have stopped flying after a pilot died Wednesday in a crash. Mike Kramer, 44, leaves behind a wife and two young children. Kramer’s brother, David, will be picking up extra uncle duties.

MN Reserve Forces Head To Afghanistan Tuesday

More than 100 soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard are getting ready for deployment to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Officials said 103 soldiers will participate in a farewell ceremony at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Aldrich Arena in Maplewood.
