Marijuana Policy Project
There will be no baggies of pot awaiting patients next week when Minnesota joins 21 other states in offering medical marijuana. No glass pipes, no plants to tend at home. Instead, the nation’s latest medical marijuana program is a world of pill bottles and vials of marijuana-infused oil.
It took years, many false starts and a veto of prior legislation, but Minnesota medical marijuana advocates finally succeeded in getting a bill that’s on track to become law in a matter of days.
Supporters of medical marijuana are trying to turn up the heat on Gov. Mark Dayton with a new TV ad that will debut in prime late-night and daytime slots. Their ad features a St. Paul woman and her 5-year-old son, whose daily seizures from intractable epilepsy have been eased by medical marijuana. The woman, Angela Garin, says in the ad she was shocked to learn that Dayton is blocking legalization of medical marijuana in Minnesota.
