QB Competition? Vikings Not Naming Starter Now

The Minnesota Vikings brought back veteran Matt Cassel back to be the bridge to the quarterback they were bound to draft this year, and they mapped out the future by trading into the end of the first round to pick Teddy Bridgewater. Retaining Cassel on a two-year contract has allowed the Vikings the opportunity to be patient with their latest project, but coach Mike Zimmer made clear this week.

Vikings Re-Sign WR Jerome Simpson

The Minnesota Vikings have re-signed receiver Jerome Simpson. The team announced the move on Friday. Simpson bounced back from an injury plagued first season in Minnesota in 2012 with a solid season last year. He caught 48 passes for a career-high 726 yards in 2013. At season’s end, Simpson expressed a desire to return to the Vikings, who see him as a legitimate deep threat alongside Greg Jennings and Cordarrelle Patterson in the passing game.

Minnesota Vikings Disappoint In 2013

The Minnesota Vikings had higher expectations than the 5-10-1 record the team finished with in the 2013 season. The Vikings pass defense was abysmal in 2013 with five game-tying or game-winning scores in the final minute of the game. The team used three starting quarterbacks, including Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel for small stretches twice. The team fired head coach Leslie Frazier very early Monday morning.
