The community in Wisconsin’s River Falls came together to help a mother overcome a devastating loss nearly three years ago, In July of 2012, Aaron Schaffhausen killed his daughters — Amara, Sophie and Cecilia. Since then, the community has worked to raise $550,000 for a memorial playground in their honor.

Construction is set to get underway on a new memorial at the State Capitol which honors the family members of military veterans. A groundbreaking for The Military Family Tribute was held Wednesday on the grounds of the State Capitol.
On the cold and snowy landscape of a wintry Saturday afternoon, bicyclists of all ages came to pay their respects. Marcus Nalls, 26, was one of them: a commuter on two wheels who used his bike to get around. Stefan Turner, a bicycle mechanic, had just worked on Nalls’ bike, installing his rack and fenders. “Marcus was one of the … coolest guys we’ve had in our shop in a long time,” Turner said.
