Gov. Dayton: Minimum Wage Fees Are ‘Tacky’

Gov. Mark Dayton says he’s disappointed that some Minnesota restaurants are pushing costs of a minimum wage increase on their customers. Dayton told Minnesota Public Radio’s Morning Edition Thursday that he thinks the decision is tacky.

Mpls. Workers Rally For Minimum Wages To Be Raised To $15 An Hour

The push is growing to raise the minimum wage in Minnesota. Some lawmakers want to pass a bill this session to raise it to $9.50 an hour, but some workers in Minneapolis were rallying for much more Saturday. “I believe workers have a right, have a basic human right to be able to make enough money to raise their families and have safe affordable housing,” Veronica Mendez Moore from Minneapolis said.

Restaurant Owners Make Stand Against Proposed Minimum Wage Increase

Restaurant and resort owners were at the Capitol Monday, lobbying against the proposed increase in the minimum wage. They say most servers already make well over the minimum wage when you factor in tips. Some said the increase would force them to lay off employees and raise prices, and they are trying to get lawmakers to carve out exceptions to the current proposed increase.
