Itasca County Deputy Shoots, Kills Man

An Itasca County deputy shot and killed a man who allegedly threatened officers early Saturday morning. Deputies say they were responding to a disturbance call just before 3 a.m. in Cohasset. They were approached by a man with a gun when they arrived.

Sheriff: Woman Shot Dead In Nobles County

A 40-year-old woman is dead after a shooting in far southwestern Minnesota early Wednesday morning, according to the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities were called at about 2:40 a.m. to a residence in Brewster, Minn., after the caller stated that his wife had been shot.

Dakota County Begins DNA Collection

A county south of the Twin Cities begins collecting DNA samples from people arrested and charged with violent crimes. Previously an individual had to be convicted before a DNA sample could be collected. But a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 2013 changed that.

Two people found dead in a western Minnesota home Wednesday morning was the result of a murder-suicide, according to the Lac qui Parle County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities were called at about 8 a.m. to do a welfare check at the residence of William and Shelley Walley, located in Madison Township.

Northern Minnesota Man Arrested In 1987 Killing Of Woman

Authorities say they have arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with an 83-year-old woman’s death in 1987 in northern Minnesota. The arrest was announced Wednesday by the Virginia Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The Virginia, Minnesota, man faces a second-degree murder charge in Leona Mary Maslowski’s death.
