Pronto Preps: Last Minute Preparations Underway At The Fair

The dress rehearsals and the finishing touches were being taken care of Wednesday night, because Thursday morning it’s back to business at the Minnesota State Fair. Bill Mayfield and his crew from Indiana spent the day pumping out taffy on a machine that’s nearly as old as the Fair itself. He’s working his 7th State Fair this year for Sutter’s Taffy.

Mpls. Restaurant Group Raises Minimum Wage

A major Twin Cities restaurant group is raising the minimum wage for some of its employees higher than the new state law requires. The Blue Plate Restaurant Company owns eight popular spots, and will open a new restaurant at the State Fair Thursday. Starting Sept. 1, Blue Plate’s non-tip workers will earn $9.69 an hour.

Dayton To Take ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Gov. Mark Dayton plans to chill out at the Minnesota State Fair by taking a bucket of ice water over his head. Dayton spokesman Matt Swenson said Tuesday the governor accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge after being egged on by Minnesota Twins owner Jim Pohlad. Dayton will do it on live radio during Thursday’s opening day of the fair.
