Minnesota State Fair
The Minnesota State Fair Grandstand was evacuated Saturday night because of weather concerns. According to State Fair spokeswoman Brianna Schulte, the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis concert will be postponed until 9:15 p.m. Concert goers were temporarily evacuated as a safety precaution.
Everyone had a favorite food, ride or attraction at the Minnesota State Fair. But one Twin Cities’ teen can never get enough of the River Raft Ride. Jarek Belle-Isle has cerebral palsy, which affects his muscle coordination. The condition prevents him from going on most of the rides in the midway, but the River Raft Ride has allowed him to take part in the fair fun. “It’s so much fun and I enjoy it so much,” Jarek said.
As the nation sits on the brink of a military intervention in Syria, an intervention that has a nation nervously wondering if the President’s “limited” action could lead to a path to a greater extended conflict, there is a place to ignore this and all other problems, whether they be national, domestic or personal.

Rodeo royalty politely says “excuse me” while maneuvering around the Minnesota State Fair. Rodeo royalty represents the best of rural Minnesota with witty – and yet practical – slogans. “We like to say you can fix anything with a little twine and duct tape,” she said of her hometown Pine River, a town of 900 people located just north of Brainerd.
The brightest minds at the State Fair on Friday could be found in the back corner of the Education Building showing off their 100-pound made-from-scratch robots. Precocious ingenuity collided with full-on nerdery at the High School Robotics Competition as the science class savants from Mahtomedi, Becker and Fergus Falls showed off what six weeks of electrical engineering, innovative 3-D printers and zealous ambition can spawn.
There appears to be little disagreement about the evidence of Syria’s use of chemical weapons, but amongst Minnesota’s Congressional delegation – there are major differences over what to do about it. At the Minnesota State Fair, members of Congress were giving all sorts of advice. Democrat Keith Ellison says he supports a limited, tactical military response to chemical warfare.
Friday marks the beginning of the last weekend at the Great Minnesota Get-Together, and the WCCO Morning Show team were getting into the spirit. Or maybe they were getting into a friendly rivalry.

Her name is Betty Phiffer. She’s 93 and lives in White Bear Lake. What makes her amazing is she first came to the fair when she was 13 – she remembers the fair back in the 1930s. Eight decades ago, she remembers being a teenager on her favorite ride.
