Bob Suter Leaves Behind Legacy As Player, Father

There’s no other moment in sports that comes close to what Americans felt that day in 1980, when a bunch of college kids beat the mighty Soviet Union in the “Miracle on Ice.” And for that, we have Bob Suter to thank. Suter died Sept. 9 from a heart attack at the age of 57. But he left quite a legacy behind.

‘Miracle On Ice’ Member Bob Suter Dies

Bob Suter, a member of the “Miracle On Ice” team that won the Olympic gold medal in 1980 and the father of Minnesota Wild star Ryan Suter, died Tuesday at the age of 57. The Wild announced Suter’s death and called him “a great hockey ambassador, he was a terrific person off the ice who will be greatly missed.” The team did not disclose other details.

‘Miracle On Ice’ Gold Medal Auctioned For $262,900

An Olympic gold medal earned by a player on the “Miracle on Ice” 1980 U.S. Olympic team has been auctioned for nearly $263,000. It belonged to Mark Pavelich, who had the assist on Mike Eruzione’s game-winning goal for Team USA against the Soviet Union.

Hockey Fans Cheer Team USA At Blaine’s Herb Brooks Center

Saturday’s Olympic hockey match-up between Team USA and Russia had many thinking back 34 years ago to the “Miracle on Ice” game at Lake Placid. So it was only fitting that a viewing party was held at the Herb Brooks Training Center at the Schwan’s Super Rink in Blaine, with dozens of hockey fans in attendance. “You get to see the best players,” said fan Brian Maloney. “It’s fun to watch them play the Russians with all the history and stuff.”

Hockey Legend Lou Nanne Sends Congrats To Team USA

USA’s Olympic hockey team beat Russia 3-2 in a stunning shootout Saturday. The arena in Sochi was packed to overflowing with fans of both nations, jovially posing for photos and comparing their colorful sweaters. The Russians waved hundreds of flags, blew horns and banged drums from the first moments of warm-ups. Hockey legend and former Golden Gopher Lou Nanne was team captain during the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France. He says Saturday’s game was quite a spectacle.
