It was half a year ago Tuesday when a fire erupted through the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis. It was early New Year’s Day morning when an apartment building exploded into flames. Three lost their lives six months ago, but for others that day was only the beginning of the pain.
A St. Louis Park family is looking for answers after their son died in an accident at school — the place they feel he should have been the safest. Authorities said Abdullahi Charif, 12, was found Thursday morning at the bottom of the pool after gym class at St. Louis Park Middle School. He died over the weekend and was laid to rest on Sunday. The family of the boy tells WCCO-TV they have mixed emotions as they attempt to sort out the tragedy that unfolded last week. From the deepest sadness to anger, the family is hoping to get more answers Monday as they meet with officials investigating what happened.
The DFL caucus that ended prematurely after chaos erupted at the Minneapolis meeting will be rescheduled. DFL Chairman Ken Martin said Wednesday because the caucus wasn’t officially adjourned Tuesday night at the Bryan Cole Community Center, it will be reconvened at a date that’s not yet been set.
Minnesota will be well represented at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. The most notable is former Minneapolis limo driver Barkhad Abdi, who was discovered by the producers of Captain Phillips. Abdi, who had never acted before, is nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
