Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and Republican challenger Jeff Johnson picked up the intensity in a debate Wednesday before a northwestern Minnesota crowd, arguing about taxes, an oil pipeline and economic growth. Independence Party candidate Hannah Nicollet also took part in the 90-minute event — the second of five scheduled debates.

Moorhead Police Need Help ID’ing Body Found In Red River

Police in Moorhead, Minnesota are asking for the public’s help in identifying the body of a man found in the Red River last week. The body was spotted by a boater on Monday, Sept. 29, and later recovered by the Moorhead Fire Department under the train bridge near Memorial Park.

Authorities Seek Suspect After Driver Nearly Hit By Bullets

Moorhead authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating a man suspected of shooting at a driver and nearly striking him. On Sunday morning at around 9:30 a.m., Moorhead Police were contacted by a victim reporting to have been shot at. The north Moorhead resident said his vehicle was damaged by gunfire when he was attempting to drive away from a man that he knew.

Funeral Today For Slain N.D. State Student

The North Dakota State University student found slain in Moorhead will be laid to rest as authorities search for the person responsible for his death. A funeral Mass for 18-year-old Thomas Bearson will be held Monday morning at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in his hometown of Sartell.

Funeral Planned For NDSU Freshman Tom Bearson

A funeral is scheduled for Monday for a college freshman from Sartell, Minn. Eighteen-year-old Tom Bearson’s body was discovered Tuesday morning in Moorhead, Minn. three days after he was last seen leaving a party near the North Dakota State University campus in Fargo.

There are still questions as to what happened to Tom Bearson, but officers in Fargo, N.D. say they now believe he is gone. Twenty minutes into a morning search for Bearson, a searcher found a body matching his description.

For 3rd Time, Moorhead Water Is ‘Best In Glass’

Raise a toast to Moorhead’s drinking water — it’s been judged the best-tasting in Minnesota. Moorhead water was awarded “Best in Glass” this week at the annual convention of the Minnesota chapter of the American Water Works Association in Duluth. It was the third time Moorhead has won the award.

MSU Student Charged With Dorm Rape

A student at Minnesota State University Moorhead is facing criminal charges after being accused of raping an 18-year-old girl during a night of drinking in a dorm. According to the Clay County Attorney’s Office, 23-year-old Angel Mario Vega is charged with one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of providing liquor to someone under 21.

Dayton: Diversion Plan Needs Better Communication

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton said Wednesday the notion that Minnesota and North Dakota residents who live upstream from a proposed Red River diversion project are being sacrificed for commercial development in Fargo has some merit. Backers of the project disagree, saying it is meant to protect the current residents.

A man convicted for a drive-by shooting in Moorhead, Minn., nearly 15 years ago had second thoughts at a change of plea hearing in North Dakota on illegal weapons charges.
